The Detroit based rap
group Tha Paypa Boiz is
gaining worldwide attention
with their Street Newz
compilation CD. The album is a
unique blend of Motor City attitude
with elements of east coast, west
coast, and Dirty South hip-hop. It
has a
smörgåsbord
of featured
appearances by artists like Breed,
Kurupt, and Mastamind of
Natas to name a few. Since it’s
debut, the album has sold thousands
of units worldwide, and is gaining
momentum on a daily basis. The group
has had press coverage in several of
the major hip-hop publications and
throughout the Internet. Just Google
the name “Tha Paypa Boiz” and
you’ll see how strong a buzz these
guys have created.
Tha Paypa Boiz
is a collaborative ensemble of solo
artists and producers from Paypa
Boi Entertainment, an
independent record label in Detroit,
MI. The main group consists of
veteran rappers Arcane and
Big Isz aka Dykkon Isar.a.n.
Both have had their share of
accomplishments individually, but
they have joined forces to catapult
themselves and the label into the
mainstream market.
Arcane
is known for his lyrical precision.
His quick tongue delivery has been
compared to the blade of a
guillotine, sharp and to the point.
Big Isz has a distinct,
almost animated rap style. Hearing
him is like riding a roller coaster,
because he takes you up and down on
every other word. Just like Andre
3000 and Big Boi from
OutKast, Arcane and
Big Isz can hold their own as
solo artists, but when they work
together the outcome is phenomenal.
Tha Paypa Boiz’ lyrics
reflect real-life situations in
their environment. In their songs
you’ll hear the good, the bad, and
the ugly, but you can be assured it
will be done creatively.
At the nucleus of the group is
Russell Colvin Jr. aka
Kawtion, the CEO of Paypa Boi
Entertainment. Some might call
him “The Make It Happen Man”,
because throughout his career he has
made a number of power moves,
including becoming the manager for
the legendary MC Breed. He
organized Tha Paypa Boiz
under Fallen Angelz Entertainment,
the label that brought you Dice’s
Black Monday CD. The
group originally consisted of
Arcane, Boo Boo Breed (MC
Breed’s cousin), E-Jay, and
Young Hoop, but was
reorganized in 2003 under Paypa
Boi Entertainment with a new
team and a new direction. Kawtion
is also a solo artist and is often
featured on Tha Paypa Boiz
songs.
DJ Lenn Swann
is the label’s in-house producer.
Swann is a master turntablist,
who has competed, placed, and won
several DJ competitions throughout
the world. He is a life member of
the world renowned 12 Tek Mob,
a group of some of the best scratch
DJ’s in the business. He's been
awarded a triple platinum plaque for
scratching on Eminem's hit
song Bonnie and Clyde.
Swann is equally as good with
his music production; he has
produced tracks for Slum Village,
D12, and of course Tha
Paypa Boiz. Some of the other
producers lending their skills to
Tha Paypa Boiz sound include
Kawtion, Kerry Clark,
Mr. Wax and DJ Dez of
Slum Village.
Tha Paypa Boiz
is a family production. Everyone
involved works together for the
common goal of being heard and
selling music. This hard work a
dedication is beginning to pay off,
as Tha Paypa Boiz will soon
be featured artists on The
Outlawz complication CD
Collaboration Volume 1 along
with E-40, Young Buck,
Spice One, Bone Thugs N
Harmony, and many others. You
can expect to hear this release
around the early part of 2008.
Tha Paypa Boiz’
album, Street Newz Vol. I
will be in stores mid 2008. It will
be continuation of the original
Street Newz complication
with four new songs featuring
Lady Blade, Elzhi of
Slum Village, Young Noble
of The Outlawz, and a solo by
Big Isz. This CD will also
include a bonus DVD.
At present, Tha Paypa Boiz
are writing and recording new
material for future projects. They
are available for show appearances
upon request. For more information
